I haven’t lost my pet but I was thinking that it will be a good idea to be already aware of the action plan in case such a situation occurs as I will go into a panic mode if it happens to me.

I would suggest to check your neighborhood and ask the neighbours/passers-by if they had seen the dog. You may also report this to the authorities. You also need to think about what he likes and accordingly check for specific places like a nearby park, food store, etc.

You can also use a GPS dog tracker. It can be attached to the collar and is a great way to keep a track of your dog. However, it involves monthly subscription as well so it can get a bit costly.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. They would definitely be helpful. I have also taken some high resolution pics of the dog from different angles so that if I need to print a handout or post them on the Internet, I can do so.

    Some nice tips shared.

I would like to add that you may also contact the local animal shelters and veterinary clinics. God forbid, if the dog met with an accident, someone might have taken him to a clinic.
